Michele Stefanile is an underwater archaeologist and Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology at the University of Naples “L’Orientale”. For the same University at that moment he is a lecturer in Underwater and Naval Archaeology.
He has a BA with honours in Classics (2005 - Univ. of Naples), a MA with honours in Archaeology (2009 - Latin Epigraphy – Univ. of Naples), a MA in Underwater Archaeology (2008 - Univ. of Barcelona), a higher education diploma in Restoration of Underwater Structures (2010 - Baia – ISCR) and he obtained the Erasmus Student Scholarship (2007 – Alicante, Spain).
He has taken part in archaeological excavations in Pompeii (2004 – 2005 – 2009 – 2010), Aveia (Fossa-AQ-Italy, 2009-2010-2011), Aversa (St. Paul’s Cathedral, 2010), Libisosa (Lezuza-Castilla La Mancha-Spain, 2008), Pontecagnano (Italy, 2006), Naples (Forum of Neapolis, 2006), Farnese (Viterbo, 2003); in archaeological surveys in Kaulonia (Monasterace Marina, 2006) and in Campobello di Licata (Sicily, 2002); in archeological underwater excavations in Roses (Triunfante shipwreck, 2009-2010), Deltebre (Deltebre I shipwreck, 2010); in archaeological underwater maintenance works in Baia (Underwater Archaeological Park of Baia, Naples, 2010); in archaeological underwater surveys in Catalunya (2008), Scalea (Italy, 2010), Turkey (Antalya, 2011).
He published a book, a dozen of  papers in scientific journals and more than seventy articles for different magazines (BBC History Italia, Arte Magazine, ArcheoNews).
He has taken part as a speaker in several conferences in Italy, Spain, Portugal, USA.
He took part in the production of documentaries for History Channel, National Geographic and Silver River Productions.
He is in the executive board of the GAMA - General Association of Mediterranean Archaeology, and he is a member of the NAS - Nautical Archaeology Society.
Since 2010, he has been the regional coordinator for the underwater activities of the volunteers of the Gruppi Archeologici d’Italia.
Since 2009, he has been the director of the training center in Underwater Archaeology of the Centro Sub Campi Flegrei (Pozzuoli, Napoli).
Since 2006 he has been  a member of the Gruppo Archeologico Napoletano, for which he has held a dozen talks.
He is an expert diver (PADI Divemaster) and he has worked in the Archaeological Underwater Park of Baiae as diving guide.
